Sani Beach

EnoshimaBeaches line the entire coast to the east and west of Enoshima. Found in Penghu County, among the remote western islands of Taiwan, Jibei is an almost untouched spot, out of reach of most city-going travellers. Getting here involves taking a boat from the North Sea Tourist Centre to the main part of the island, where there are plenty of watersports, sun umbrellas and wooden cabins for an overnight stay. But it’s the secluded, often deserted sandspit, a 15-minute walk away, that’s truly special.

The sixteenth-century manor house has been lovingly restored, and now features a restaurant serving modern British dishes with a focus on local produce. With its plumped Egyptian cotton linens and optional nutritional therapy service ,Saltwater House wouldn’t look out of place on the of Santa Monica. A peek out the window of your tastefully designed abode will remind you that you’re in the UK, though – there are grand views over the Portstewart Strand and the Atlantic Ocean. Saunton Sands Hotel – a brilliant white 1930s Art Deco building, which presides over the huge sandy vista.

Wide sand dunes, perfect for dog walking at any time of year, leading to a quiet, wide sandy beach facing towards Scroby Sands Wind Farm. It can get canny chilly on the northeastern coast of England, which probably explains why its long stretches of gorgeous coastline have been criminally overlooked by holiday-goers. Bamburgh’s pristine 1.5-mile long white sand beach is one of the area’s best, and sits beneath a mighty eleventh-century castle that was recently used as a filming location for the latest Indiana Jones. Appley Beach with its wide expanse of sandy beach and lush green park beyond is one of the most popular Island beaches. With beach huts nestled under the trees and its own fairy castle on the beach – Appley Tower, a gothic folly built in the 1870s – there’s a real sense of magic at Appley.

Amble along the promenade to take in the TERN Project, an award-winning sculpture trail celebrating local wildlife, with steel gannets, cormorants and razorbills dotted along the seafront. Ishigaki IslandIshigaki Island offers several nice and good snorkeling in the coral reefs which surround nearly every beach on the island. Kabira Bay, considered Ishigaki Island’s most scenic view, does not allow swimming or snorkeling but there are glass bottom boat rides available for those who want to explore the bay.

This popular beach sees lots of visitors during the summer, and shops renting beach paraphernalia open during the swimming season. Public facilities include showers, changing rooms and toilets. Subtropical Okinawa Prefecture is famous for its white sand beaches, turquoise waters and warm climate with temperatures barely falling below 15 degrees in winter and beaches that are open year round. The best time to go swimming is from around late May until October. Always beware of strong currents that can pull you out to sea and poisonous creatures such as Habu Jellyfish, a type of box jellyfish, that are most prevalent from June to October. Possibly one of the most photogenic places in the world, Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue is the original Bounty advert beach, cloaked in pure white sand and strewn with hefty granite boulders.
