Biodiesel Friendly Businesses

The following is a list of business, primarily in the Northwest, that are using biodiesel in one capacity or another despite not being directly involved in the production or sale of biodiesel. Whether or not you are using biodiesel yourself, you can support the cause by giving these companies your business.

Construction/Landscaping/Home Building Materials

Construction is a great opportunity for biofuels since much of the machinery already has diesel engines.

OREGON

Boles Concrete Construction

Custom concrete specialist, biodiesel used in bobcat and 2 work trucks. Based in Eugene, OR.

DeSantis Landscapes

Landscape design, build and maintenance. Biodiesel in trucks and equipment. Based in Salem, OR.

Eleek, Inc.

Runs their company car and van on B99 (B50 in the winter).  They design and manufacture sustainable, handmade building parts - lighting, cast metal sinks, hardware, tiles, and more.  Based in Portland, OR.

James Guy Construction

Construction services, using biodiesel in pickup and car. La Pine, OR.

Neil Kelly

Design/building/remodeling, delivery box trucks using biodiesel. Based in Portland, OR.

Rexious

Landscape and environmental services, plus other products, all company vehicles, both delivery and passenger, using biodiesel. Eugene, OR.

Richard Whyte

Carpentry, remodels, additions, repairs, has a van running biodiesel.

WASHINGTON

Earthwise Excavation

Excavation and septic company, extensive use of B99. Based in Snohomish, WA.

EcoYards

Provides complete lawn and landscape services with an emphasis on quality customer service and environmental responsibility.  Uses biodiesel in all company trucks (B20 in the winter, B99 the rest of the year) and biodiesel to heat their offices.

Environmentally sound landscape designs. They run biodiesel in all of their diesel equipment and vehicles. Based in Mill Creek, WA.

Seattle Tree Preservation

Tree care professionals, trucks and chippers using biodiesel. Based in Seattle, WA.

Turner Construction

Turner has a fleet of 22 trucks running on B99 and keep a 275 gallon tank of B99 biodiesel in their warehouse.  They use biodiesel for heating as well as in their construction equipment.  Based in Seattle, WA.

Foods and Beverages

Numerous food-related companies are getting in on the act, from providing waste oil on large scale to using biodiesel in production, delivery, or other capacities.

AQUALIV

An ultra-purified drinking water that boosts metabolism and detoxifies the body.  They run B99 in their sales vehicles and use wind turbines for their electricity, including electric forklifts.

Argyle Winery

Willamette Valley Winery. Biodiesel use in tractors and farm equipment.

Cafe Mam

Organic, fair trade coffee, biodiesel delivery vehicles. Based in Eugene, OR, available at select food stores nationally.

Dungeness Organic Produce

Olympic Peninsula (Sequim) organic farm uses biodiesel in their tractors to provide over forty kinds of vegetables for the pacific northwest.

Essential Baking

Artisan breads, pastries & desserts. Entire delivery fleet using B99 in Sprinter and Ford vans. Seattle-based. Products available throughout NW Washington at their cafes or can be purchased at QFC, Larry's, PCC, Trader Joe's, Thriftway & WholeFoods.

Jones Soda

Seattle-based beverage company. Traveling promotional RVs running B20. Available throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Kettle Foods

Chips, nuts, etc. Alliance with SeQuential Biofuels for waste oil, also biodiesel-powered company vehicles. Based in Salem, OR, available at supermarkets throughout the U.S.

LADYBUG brand produce

Ladybug is the brand name of produce distributed by "Organically Grown Company". See "Logistics and Distribution".

Lemelson Vineyards

Yamhill County (OR) Winery. Biodiesel use in tractors.

New Seasons Market

New Seasons Market is a Portland-based grocery chain with 9 stores that give priority to local, sustainable farmers, ranchers, and fishers.  They operate a fleet of biodiesel delivery vans and use local distribution companies like Organically Grown, which uses biodiesel in its trucks.

Percasso Coffee & Bottled Water Service

Coffee and bottled water services, delivery van and Suburban using biodiesel. Portland, OR.

Pioneer Organics

Home produce delivery. One delivery truck and one company car using biodiesel. Seattle and Portland areas.

Sokol Blosser

Winery, using biodiesel in tractors. Dundee, OR.

Stumptown Roasters

Stumptown Roasters, Portland, OR - coffee shops, wholesale, and internet sales: runs their fleet of delivery vehicles on biodiesel.

Willamette Valley Vineyards

Winery, using biodiesel in distribution vehicles, tractors and off-road equipment. Turner, OR.

Witness Tree Vineyard

Winery, using biodiesel in tractors and off-road equipment. Salem, OR.

Grocery

Grocery stores and markets utilize biodiesel in their distribution networks, and other places.

New Seasons Market

New Seasons is a Portland, Oregon based grocery chain with 6 stores. They are committed to using local sustainable resources but do not have their own distribution network. Their largest grocery distributor is the same as Whole Foods, who is rolling out B20 nationwide. New Seasons also utilizes other smaller local distribution companies like Organically Grown Company which uses biodiesel in it's trucks.

Whole Foods Markets

Company is switching to B20 in their nationwide fleet of trucks starting in the mid-west. Local stores are in Seattle and Bellevue Washington, and Portland Oregon.

Portland's premier wings joint gives all of their used oil to the Portland GoBiodiesel co-op.

Organically Grown Company

Since 1982 OGC has served as the largest wholesaler of organic fruits, vegetables and herbs in the Pacific Northwest. Organically Grown Company has been working with the biodiesel industry since 2001 testing and proving out the viability of biodiesel use in a distribution system. Since 2001 various blends ranging from B20 to B100, from various suppliers and various delivery methods, have been tested and used in their trucks. As of May 1, 2005 they fuel all trucks on B20, and are working plans to move to B50 and begin full use trials of B99 in select markets.
