- School District Switches Bus Fuel to Biiodiesel Blend |

A recent move by the Caldwell County school district has county
school bus riders, and bus drivers, breathing easier.
The school district recently switched the fuel for its fleet
of buses from regular diesel fuel to a blend of diesel and
biodiesel, a fuel derived from natural oils — in this
case, soybeans — and school officials say the cleaner-burning
biodiesel is already paying off.....

SEATTLE - Aaron Kahn is on a road only a small number of Seattle
drivers have tried, using biodiesel fuels instead of traditional
diesel.
Kahn believes it's the path everyone will be on in the coming
years. "
We cannot continue to use gasoline at the levels that we do
use it," he said.
The problem is there's not much of a market for biodiesel
fuel. Only one or two stations in Seattle offer it. And while
biofuels get better mileage, they cost $1 more per gallon.
Also, only vehicles that now burn diesel can burn biodiesel......

Fuel Backers Celebrate Biodiesel Plant |

John Plaza bypasses the gas station these days.When
his pickup's gas gauge nears empty, he pumps biodiesel —
made in his own plant — into his tank.
Plaza expects to fill up hundreds of other vehicles when his
processing plant, Seattle Biodiesel, officially opens sometime
this spring. It will be the first wholesale biodiesel plant

area, says study |
BERKELEY – Children on
school buses collectively inhale as much or more exhaust emitted
from those buses as does the rest of the city's population,
according to a new analysis by researchers at the University
of California.
The results highlight the problem of "self-pollution,"
or exhaust from the vehicle leaking into the cabin, particularly
among older buses. This also is the first study to specifically
look at how much exhaust is breathed in on school buses.....
